fan is not running aty all
99 zx7r fan does not turn on at all....fuse is good when i give the fan wire 12v it fires up....if its an auto/temp switch how do I test it or what temp does the switch kick on.......worst case could I hook it up to my ignition so it's on all the time or will that kill the battery????
Thanks guys

The fan temp switch is tested by boiling up some water on your stove, verify that this is the temp, and see if it closes to make the connection. Your sensor is more accurate than the switch, I would prolly verify by jumpering out the switch, make sure the fan runs, then replace the switch.

when I un-hook the wires from the temp switch and put them together the fan starts.....how often should the fan come on by it self?
i have never heard it come on evan when the bike is hot!!

well I took the TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT out and put a mini torch to the tip and with my meter on the two contacts set to continuity I got nothing....The I took the wrench that I used to remove it and smacked it a few times and bam it worked....installed it in the bike and works like a charm for now...I will need a new one soon but Kawasaki wants 58 bucks for it..I found some on eBay for 25 and a local motorcycle shop L & L cycles in Dallas wants 20 for a used one,.,.....

The fan only kicks ion when the temperature is getting close to boiling, so if your motor shows no signs of getting too hot, the the fan will never be called.
Does this bike use the cooling temperature sender to switch the fan, or does it use a seperate switch in the radiator.
Either way, the fan is called through a relay, so check that as well as the switch and fuse.

The fan switch is screwed in to the rad (usually on the left side).
Replace it...they go bad about every 3 years (it happens).
Don't go to the key...if you want, put a waterproof switch on the fairing as a back up.
In case this happens again, or, you're in slow traffic in july and need a breeze thru the rad.

any where. Just keep it out of "bumping into" range.
If you go to a marine store for the switch, you can put it right on top above the rad right in the fairing. keep it close to the original fan switch, less wire to run.
