I live in Thailand and have had a d-tracker for 5 years now. The plastic display cover of the speedometer has faded due to the sun and rain and has a milky look now through which I cannot read my speed etc. anymore. Any idea if just this plastic part can be replaced as stand-alone or do I need a whole new unit?

You have to buy some polarising film and remove the failed film from the LCD panel inside your speedometer. Replace the film and your numbers will show again.
