Exhaust leak

Exhaust leak
Started up the bike yesterday and noticed that there seems to be an exhaust leak coming from the right side where the muffler (or whatever you want to call it ) attaches to the pipe. There is a clamp that holds the two together. It appears to be on tight. Should I just try tightening the clamp? Any recommendations on what I can do? (I know....pics would be useful - but don't have any at the moment)

RE: Exhaust leak
Hi Crystal, First you should make sure where the leak is at, start your bike and take some warm soapy water, pour the solution over the connection and find the leak by seeing where the soap bubbles up. Then tightening the clamp, then pour more soap solution and see if the leak has been reduced.

RE: Exhaust leak
Thank you notstock! I'll give that a try. I want to see if I can fix it on my own.
But worse case scenario......I'm working on getting a mechanic out to my place to do a valve adjustment for me, so if I can't fix my exhaust - I'll see if he'll help me out.

RE: Exhaust leak
There should be a series of bolts that hold the can onto the pipe with a flange style seal. You might need to take off a cosmetic cap to get to the bolts. At least that's the way it works on my bike [8D] Good luck!

RE: Exhaust leak
Thanks for the info, but I think mine is different. There doesn't appear to be a cap. Basically the muffler slips onto the pipe and there is a clamp that joins the two pieces together. I can feel air coming out of it only in one place. I'm gonna try to mess around with it this weekend.
