Dead Battery... I thought...

Dead Battery... I thought...
So, I went to take my bike out for a ride today, only to turn the key to the on position and..... NOTHING... no lights, no nothing. So obviously I thought that maybe I left the lights on the last time I rode it. I plugged it into my trickle charger and got nothing. The trickle charger did not even acknowledge that it was plugged in. Typically the led lights up for charging or storage, depending on what its doing.
So... I assumed my charger was f'ed up, so I went to Wal-Mart and bought a new one. I plugged it in and it said it was charging, so I thought I was all good... no such luck. It quickly filled up the "charging" column and then the check battery light started blinking. According to the directions on the charger that means that it aborted the charge.
After all this, I have no idea what is wrong. I think the battery is charged, but I am not sure, because nothing on the bike will turn on. I plan on picking up amulti-meter tomorrowand checking thevoltage on the battery.
Until then, does anyone have any ideas?
thanks

I would have to guess battery is Junk....Dead cell, etc.....
If you don't have the equipment, take the batt out and go down to the parts store and they will test for free.

do a basic inspection... check the green 30A fuse that supplies main power to the bike..
check the integrity of the connections.
a shorted cell will draw a max load out of the charger, which they're not meant to handle..if its new and the fault detection is tripping on the hookup, i'd do what BR said and have it tested. its probably trashed.
if its serviceable, chech the Ph andelectrolyte level in the battery with a hydrometer.

Not sure where you live, but real cold weather is very hard on batteries. Even with the trickle charger, you can experience "over-cooking' the electrolyte, resulting in a half empty battery. I used to use trickle chargers alot, but it's cheaper to just take the dang thing out and bring it in the house to keep warm.
I like to ride in all kinds of weather; don't get me wrong. But when it's real cold, just take the battery out and keep it in the house.
