Question Is the crossover pipe made of anything special?

My crossover pipe is rusted through on my bike. I can't find just the crossover for sale so I am wondering if I can make do with just some tube steel or is it something special? Thanks from a motorcycle newb

We are talking about the 4 into 2 exhaust with the cross pipe in the middle of the two? Aren't they generally just bolted together under the bike? I suppose that you could cut that out and get your oxy/acetylene kit out to place a new cross section. Not sure on how easy it would be to reassemble the full exhaust system though with it in one piece.

These are the pipes I have. (Well these ones aren't mine, just representative ) The circled section is the part that rusted through and it is just held in place by two circle clamps.

The only other issue that I can see with welding the two is one: serviceablilty, two getting a good seal on the head because the exhaust is now one piece.
