Default Continuation of 'Smoke!!!'. This one's a doosie!!

Alrighty guys... heres a good test of the collective knowledge of everyone! =)

Ok if you read my other thread on smoke... you saw where my troubles started... and here's what has happened over the past few days.

So day 1 of bringing the bike out of hibernation, started ok and ran for a bit, but there was a lot of nasty smoke, and it eventually died. Wouldn't even turn over at this point.
Day 2 I drained all the oil, all the fuel, and replaced it with new stuff. Changed the oil filter too, got a new battery (old one was pooched) and plugged it all in.... now when I turn the key, it charges up fine as usual, but upon hitting the ignition it won't even attempt to turn over. Just one click, then nothing. Now this is a bit odd because if the battery was dead you usually get a series of clicks... checked all the fuses, they are fine.

So now here's where things get extra confusing.... for one, the oil light won't turn off... it usually does after a few seconds even when just keyed on. We have the right amount of oil in and it is fresh.... okay secondly, we tried shifting it in gear and rolling it to get some oil cycled up into it... so we shifted it into gear while off, and even with the clutch held IN.. (yes as in neutral basically) it became very very difficult to push... it will move, but only with a lot of force. While the bike is off we cycled up through the gears, and it got easier to push the higher we went. But still, I have no idea why 1st would be so difficult to move, especially with the clutch pulled in where it should have no resistance at all.

So where I stand now, I think the battery is now completely dead as I have the ticktickticktick... think its just from all the trying to start we did. Gonna take it in to charge tomorrow and make sure it is still good, and attempt to start it with a fresh battery and letting it sit for a day (pretty sure it got flooded too).

Sorry for the long winded post, but the bike is just showing a lot of strange symptoms. Could the battery be so drained that it can't cycle any oil up into the clutch, causing the stiffness? Could old fuel/oil be gummed up somewhere in the system just totally holding everything up? Any ideas at all?

I appreciate you guys reading this if anyone does, and any ideas will be greatly appreciated... hopefully someone is just bored at work and reading through the forums... hah.

OH THE OTHER THING.... just to make it a tiny bit more of a tease... after changing all the fluids, it DID turn over twice... just a quick vrr vrrr then nothing.. so it teased us as it almost worked, arrrgh. Again, leading me to believe it might be a power problem...

ANYWAYS, any ideas - please!

I'll keep you all updated tomorrow after the fresh battery is put in.

If this is a carburettored bike it could be that a carb float has stuck open and fuel has run into the cylinder through the carb causing a hydrostatic lock when you try to start it.ie the fuel runs through the carb and past an open inlet valve to fill the cylinder with fuel. When you turn the engine it compresses the liquid(fuel) and locks up.When the fuel eventually leaks out the engine tries to start but the stuck float valve allows too much fuel in - rich mixture and flooded engine- sooted plugs - no start. It happened on my GPZ and the oil level went up due to fuel in the oil. I had to strip and clean the carbs/floats/float chambers and renew the oils then all was OK

My 99 is the same way with the clutch but I have no idea if its a problem. Is this is the first time you have pushed it in gear?
Even with the clutch in you still have to turn trany and half of the clutch (I would imagine that there is still resistance between the 2 halfs) so im hoping its how things should be.
