bike wont go to secone gear
I have a zx6r 2002. I took the bike apart for cleaning and put it back together. did not move any of the engine at all. all subframe. now the bike will go into 1st gear but when i go to shift. it goes back to neutral. EVEN from neutral it wont go up to 2nd. I check a local shop he said shift forks which i think is bull they dont just go over night from riding fine to work working. I think i may have messed up a CPU or something. any suggestions on what i can do to fix

Yeah thanks, I checked all that. I've been hearing so many problems about the tranny going bad on these bikes from the early 90's but i can even get into gear for it to slip. It just goes directly to neutral. If it was the tranny issue I heard so much about I should be able to go from 1st to 3rd and bypass or not use the second right. Come on guys, people are reading this but not responding. Help me out PLEASE

Prolly because the readers may not want to steer you wrong. I have not worked on one of those either. But, if you are comfy knowing that your clutch is fine and the shift lever/shaft is fine. Sounds like tearing out the transmission is in order.

I will respond for you . First did you change or take apart the shift linkage from the foot peg to the shift arm ?
It is critical that it is placed on its correct spline for alignment . It is comanto get it wrong and have problems getting in gear or keeping it in gear . Clutch cable will not cause it not go in gear . You can shif the bike with out the clutch as long as you unload the transmishon . Drag bikes use a box ti kill the enginne for a split second to unload the tranny while the air or elect. shifter kicks it to the next gear . How many miles are on this bike and how well does it shift ? How well do you shift it also ? No slam there just this is important info to know .
Has the bike been droped on the left side ? Bent shift linkage can do the same thing . Dorey racing that I work for droped there drag bike in the trailer last month bending the linkage and because I was not there during that race and they did not know to look it over the bike would jump out of gear at 8000 rpms due the the shift arm being bent and not holding were it was supose to .
Onec I got there I straightened the arm and all was well but it still coast the team a trip to the finals that night .
Pm for a ph # if you need further details and info .
