bike not starting
MY 95 zx7r wouldnt start this morning. I got it a few days ago and rode it a couple times. The guy i bought it from rode it the day i got it for a few minutes while following me to the place where we were putting it on my truck. Then the next day when i went to start it i noticed there was no oil. So i put 2 quarts of fully synthetic 10-W30 car oil in it. It then ran fine for 2 days. But it always took a minute to warm up before i was able to put it in gear and ride. So this mornining i push the button to start it and it tries for a second then makes some loud cracking noise. Any ideas? I think i might need a good oil change but dont know how im gonna get it to the shop if i cant start it.

RE: bike not starting
ive been readin up on my problem and it seems like it might be the battery because its making that clicking noise when i hit the ignition button and the lights fade on and off. How do i charge the battery?

RE: bike not starting
the battery is rated (should be, anyway) for like 10 or 12 A/Hrs.. the alternator makes 30.7A@ 6000RPM.. that should definitely charge a battery.. lol if it doesn't hold a charge after the battery tender deal, then i'd just replace that beast.. or at the very least, have it load-tested.

RE: bike not starting
thanks, I asked the guy in the store what oil i should get and he recomended that so i guess i shouldnt have listened to him. The battery fully charged and the bike turns on but when i hit the ignition it wont turn over, it doesnt make that clicking sound anymore which im guessing was from the dead battery. The oil light is on but there is oil in it so im guessing the oil is no good. Im going to bring it to a motorcycle repair place by me and have them do an oil change and put good motorcycle oil in it. I hope that helps. I wish it would start for a minute so i can ride it a mile to the shop, if not i dont know how im gonna get it there.

RE: bike not starting
NYC,
Do you have the original manual for the bike? If not go down to the local Kawasaki shop, go to the parts counter and let them show you on the microfish which drain plug/bolt to pull. Drain it in a oil pan and take it to auto zone/wal mart/ oriley and the will dispose of the oil. Oil change and filter is simple, and will save you some cash. I just bought a 96 and the day i got it home. I did the oil and filter, fuel filter as well. new plugs next week and checking the carbs as well. Good luck bro
