Default Big Bore Kit

i have found a big bore kit for my Zx-6r....my question is ....would it be alot of maintenance?? do you think it would cause alot of motor problems?? cuz i've heard a couple things...one being that it would just be alot of maintenance and secondly i've heard that it would probably work out fine....but i'm just wondering what you riders opinions are. so any advice on this subject would be great!!

Thanks

hmm, not knowing who made the kit or who is doing the build, I can not answer fully.
I have not played with coated liners yet but it should be all the same in engines. Rings/crosshatch, etc.
sorry man, no answers
Keep us informed

The engine should require no more maintenance than usual. Just make sure the kit is from a reputable company like MTC (www.mtceng.com), or Falicon (www.faliconcranks.com). I am sure there are other reputable companies, I've bought kits from these people and never had a problem. I have stroked CB1100 (in a CB750K frame), and it has no problems. You might want to check into getting some top end work done to promote better flow, and maybe cams.

I've had two big bore chops, a CB750/4k bored to 860 using stage2 cams, No problems more than the ususl maintanance.
The other was a XS650 bored out to 887 by Rhino tutt I think, this one got very hot and I had problems getting new head gaskets, so had to make my own using copper.
So as they lot above have said, as long as it's a well known and reputable big bore kit, go for it & let us know what you think of it.
Have fun

to bore your block, send it to Millineum technologies, they do Nikasail plating and do it right, this isnt just an bore and hone thing, they bore the aluminum block and then Blast an stick of Nickel, and other metals.
its inserted in the bore and the rod is exploded by electrical current and that plates to the block, then its honed to exact specs. most of these engines have bore tolerances of less than .002, and the ring gap on an nikasail block is half that of iron cylinder sleeves, lastly you should have your pistons before your send it out for bore, I preferr Ross pistons( www rosspistons.com )or JE pistons, i have found many better suppliers of parts above and beyond falicon and MTC, I bought an drag clutch from MTC, i was there bought it from them direct thru their door, well it wasnt right and they couldnt make it right, I had to find another machine shop to fix it for me, and did MTC cover it, nope,
if your looking for crank work use "marine crank" www.marinecrankshaftinc.com then go to their motorcycle section, they do it all and cheaper and turn around time i super, I got my crank, balanced, lightened and returned to me in 3 weeks, falicon want 3 to 6 months, APE was 2 to 4 months
and their prices are super.

at it looks like they know there stuff.
The old XS was put together using sleaves from 2 500SR singles, with pistons to match., honing is just for getting rid of small scratching so it doesn't count as a true re-bore.
