Best Mods For 1998 Zx9r
ok i picked up my zx9r and loving it, and was wondering what mods make this perform better? its got full exhaust so far. anyone done a jet kit? worth the gains? also was thinking rear sprocket +2 but from some owners said i dont need to sprocket it cus it pulls wheelies easy enough how it is. i am looking to drag the bike more than anything.. but want it to still hit some twistys with friends...

The glory of a sport bike is that it really doesnt need much, if you are looking to drag or even hit the twisties, I wouldnt recommend the stunt sprocket, and the factory settings on the jets are all you need until you get more airflow through the carbs, if you are doing the exhaust and filter then jet it too, they go hand in hand. As for ZX9R specific mods, I have no input, hopefully someone else does. Enjoy the ride and welcome to KF!

ya, its already got the header and slip on.. i havent pulled the tank off yet to check the air filter and stuff. its in the shop getting a wheel bearing as we speak. should have it back in a day or 2, then will check it out. i was gonna wait on the sprocket for a while.. and if i do a sprocket, it will only be +1 to correct it for the taller tire i put on. i guess i will look into a jet kit, but i will see how well the bike performs when i get it back.. esp with a oil change and new air filter.

anybody know if the stage 1 jet kit is more suitable than a stage 2-3 jet kit? i want the most power out of the bike.. but not break down.. ya know?
i found that dynojet makes a set up that comes with stage 1 and 3. they say stage one gives a little more power and stays friendly. stage 3 gives it alot more top end but compromises a little drive ability.. anyone have a stage 3 on their bike?

The optimum mix is 15:1 air to fuel, so the idea of changing the jets is to get it closer to that ratio. As for which jet will work best it will depend on how much more air your getting compared to stock. Since you are putting a full exhaust system in, not just a slip on, and the filter as well, I'm sure you could get plenty of extra air in there. Once again, I have no experiance so I cant guess which one to try, but if you have the time to kill and love playing around your best bet would be to ride with each of the jets and pick your fav.

you got a preference of the jet kit? and timing advancer? i think i am gonna keep it stock geared for now.. since i plan to drag it more than stunt it. but when i get a new chain, i will prob go up 1 tooth, just cus i cant see myself putting a stock sprocket back on.. and i love geared cars and jeeps, so i should gear the bike haha.
