Battery basket with corrosion on bottom

Battery basket with corrosion on bottom
I took my battery out of its holder so I could recharge it and saw that the bolt/washer at the bottom of the basket was corroded (the current battery is new) and you can see acid residue (I'm assuming that's what it is). Should I pour a solution of sodium bicarbonate down there, or should I dismantle the bolts and investigate further down? The bike is an '84 Ninja, fyi. Thanks if you can offer a suggestion

RE: Battery basket with corrosion on bottom
Generally just wire brushing a soda and water solution over the affected areas will do the trick. But I prefer to dismantle things to clean everything using the stated option or if it is that bad, replacing parts.

Dragone- Thanks. I think a dismantling is in order! I saw a swingarm on Ebay recently with severe corrosion from the battery leaking! You are awesome, btw.
Mark- Thanks too. Will do! I think you are correct about the tube. I made sure its on.
