Default Average Temperature Reading. Thermostat repacement?

My 2000' ZX9R temperature guage seems to only go up to about 150° this year. Last summer it ran at about 180°, but it was warmer then. The weather has been between 40° to 65° and I drive it about 20 miles daily to work.

Is the temp lower because it's cooler out, or could it be the thermostat?

Will it run different at the cooler temp or hurt the engine?

I've only owned it since last July.

Thanks!

Usually if a therm goes out, the bike will run hotter... I've never seen one run cooler, but it's a possibility i guess... Nope, won't hurt the bike running that cool.. and with the cooler temp outside running accross the rad, is probably why.. I bet when it warms up, or with a lot of town driving, it'll be back to 180..

Excellent! That is what I was hoping to hear. That is what I was kind of thinking myself, because it was cooler out and the cooler air running on the radiater was keeping the temp guage down. I just wanted to verfiy this with someone that knows these bikes. I had a Harley dude tell me different (nothing against Harley's).

Thank You!

At wat temp does the fan turn on for an 02 zx-6? I got it up to 202 degrees (chillin at lights) and still didn't turn on. Also, I guess it doesn't matter how hard you ride it if your temp is under 200 degrees. This morning, it averaged 170-180, and I Got a wiff of what almost smelled like burning metel. ?!?! Is that a bad thing? Maybe my oil just needs changing.
