Default 98 ZX6R shuts off while braking, help!

So, as unsafe as that is, it's true.My 1998 zx6r (16,346 miles) doesn't always do this, it's random. I will be cruising around 45-50mph and if I start braking to a complete stop or grab the clutch and start braking my engine oil light will come on and it will turn off and come to a cruising stop. Of course I can put it in nuetral and start it as its rolling, but you know...

I have already made sure the kickstand lever is not causing it and I'm not hitting the killswitch. Has anyone ever seen these symptoms?

please help!

You check your oil lately?

When I stand the bike upright and check the oil level it is full, even though it does need to be changed, it's a bit dirty. I use Amsoil synthetic, so its not gonna be extremely dirty.

I figured the oil light coming on meant the bike had reset, just like it comes on when you first turn your bike to the "on" position. It only does this when I am braking, not while cruising/accelerating. I'll be braking and it will just turn off and roll.

beats me

the kickstand switch could be starting to go bad and causing intermitent problems. i would bypass it and see if that fixes it. also make sure your idle isn't set too low causing it to stall out. but i suspect its ellectrical based ont he symptoms you've described

I would check the kickstand as well. But does the engine progressively die out, as in chug to stay going or does it just flat out cut?

It will only die smooth if Im braking, and also will start chugging around 7k rpm and die out

when chugging - will it die right away if you pull in the clutch?

yes it chugs and then I pull the clutch in and it dies. Sometimes it wont start back up and trying to start it will kill my battery and leave me screwed.

but like I said it will also die if I come to stop sometimes, I will disengage power to the rear wheel and my rpms will drop and instead of hovering around 1200 rpm it goes all the way down to zero and dies.

it's in the shop right now. but in case it doesn work out any suggestions?

idle circuit in the carbs could be off. the chugging at speed sounds like the engine dies but the only thing keeping it going is the bikes movement stickshift cars can do the same thing.

i'm leaning towards a fueling issue more than electrical. still not an easy diagnosis
