Default '93 ninja zx-7 wont start

Hey guys, im pretty new to riding. I just got my first bike a couple months ago. Its a 93 ninja zx-7. While riding one day, i was a bonehead and didnt pay attention to my fuel level and ended up running out of gas. I went back and put about a gallon of gas in it just to get it started. It will turn over but it just wont start up now. I did buy the Clymer repair manual for it but just dont know exactly where to go first. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to KF and congrats on the new ride.

You may want to check/replace the fuel filter first. Some gunk from the bottom of the tank does bad stuff. Your manual will show you on draining the float bowls as well. Good luck.

Ran out of gas on both main and reserve? tsk, tsk.
Yep; like he^ said: filter, fresh fuel, open carb bowls and get the juices flowing again OR give it a few minutes with fuel selector switch in "prime" position, turn fuel selector switch to "on" position, start 'er up.
Just to be on safe side, turn your fuel selector switch (i.e. petcock) to "off" between rides, just to keep any fuel from continuing into your carbs and subsequently into your crankcase. Fuel in the crankcase is not a good thing.
ZX-7's are a STILL a great ride; a classic bike. Post up some pics, and welcome to the forums!
Gear up; stay safe.

er, not to confuse you, what I MEANT to say is, take your long reach hex T-handle wrench (or Philips screwdriver) and loosen each drain screw (one at a time) on the bottom of each carb, until a solid flow of fuel comes out. I like to put a length of clear tubing onto the drain nipple and the other end into a used jug, just to keep the shop floor clean.

After you drain the carbs it takes a while for the bowls to fill back up. You may need to let it turn for a little while to get the fuel pump moving gas to the carbs. dont run your starter for more than 10 seconds at a time or you might burn it up, but try it a couple times to see if it will prime. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Welcome to KF!
