Default 900 LT Gas Mileage Drop

I have noticed a steady decrease in gas mileage from my 2006 900 LT. I started out with 55 - 57 mpg and am now at 40 - 42 mpg. I am concerned only from the standpoint that a noticeable decrease in gas mileage (25%)can indicate mechanical or tune-up problems. I ride one-up at the speed limit (55 - 70) and don't push it. I changed oil at 800 miles with Kawasaki 10-40 oil and filter. Tire air pressure is correct. No knocks or pings from valves or pre-ignition. No noticeable loss of power. Bike runs smooth. I bought the bike in the summer and can't imagine that cold weather (40's and 50's) would make that much difference in mileage. I called the mechanic and he didn't have any ideas. Anyone? have an idea??

No I didn't eat that much for Thanksgiving and Christmas so don't even go there!

hahaha, that was funny! Welcome to the forums.
With the cooler temps you should be increasing tq/hp slightly not necessarily losing mileage unless your carbs are not tuned correctly.

Did you check all of your vacuum lines?

Usually if vacuum lines are loose, the bike would misfire at idle or not idle at all but will check.

Thanks,

You say it's a '06, so I guess you have only just are or have just got the engine run in.
It might be due to the engine just settling in.
I'd check the condition of the plugs to see if there is any carbonizing just in case, black soot on the plugs is a sign that an engine is running a bit rich.
