Default 86 ninja 1000 problems

hey whats up,i'm new to the kawi forum.i've had my ninja since december of 06 and put it on the road in early april.the problem with the bike is every now and then it starts breaking up like it's starve for fuel.i decided to put new plugs in it when i pulled the plugs out they were all nice and brown.i put the new plugs in and it seemed to have clear it up.about two weeks pass and it ran great, but just the other day it did it again.what happens is when i'm riding it starts breaking to the point when i give it gas it wants to stall but if i letoff the gas it will idle fine.the bike has two k&n air filters and kerker slip on pipes.i don't think it's the jets because it'seems to be burning fine and it doesn't smoke at all.could it be the air to fuel mixture?some days the bike will ran great and some mornings i can hear it breaking up or getting loaded up.i'm on my fifth ninja and ive never had this problem before.any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.if you need any more info please ask..thanks...damien........

At what rpms is she breaking up? You checked the plugs after a wfo run? and they were light brn? You listed a pipe and k&n filter. Am I assuming around 3000rpm where the hesitation occurs? Sounds like needle size and placement making it run lean with your mods. The 9 use a cv carb?

You might want to pull the slides out of carbs to see if mabey the rubber diaphrams have twisted, hanging the slide open. If this has happened, the retaining rind can be staked with a center punch.

Dose it smoke at all? Dose this only happen under load (when you are driving)?

The twisting diaphrams was a problem on the 84-86 zx900, 85-87 zx600, and the 86-87 zx1000.
There was even superceeded parts that had the same issue. the only way to cure this was to stake
the metal ring so the rubber could not spin on the slide.
