RE: 85' Zx600 won't start
As I said, it will run now. I have to pull the choke and crack the throttle, and then adjust the idle with the idle adjustment ****... and then it will idle fine. I used to be able to warm it up by just holding the choke though... hmmmm.[/align]

Sounds like Carb problems...... When you cleaned the carbs, did you do a complete disassembly, or just pull the bowls? Did you remove the jets? The jets are so tiny compared to a car engine.....example: A 500cfm holley 2 barrell would have , If I remember correctly, .56 jets. Your bike, comparetively would have .15 jets....Bike has small openings. Pull the jets and run a small wire thru them, just to make sure they are not plugged whatsoever. I usually use a couple strands of speaker wire. Are all the floats adjusted properly? Not to high? Not to low? Did you pull the needle and seat? How are the little rubber o rings on those? Bike carbs a way more finicky than a cars. I know you said you can work on cars, so you can do the carbs no problem, it's just a little more meticulous.....
IF you still haven't got it figured out, I have a link somewhere I can give ya, that shows all the carb specs, etc......If you need it.

Yeah... I have come to the conclusion I'm probably going to have to disassemble it AGAIN and completly take the carbs apart and let them soak. I just pulled the bowls. I squirted out all the jets and it looked good... but it may not have been. I said I work on cars... but everything I do is EFI. I have no carb experience. :-/ Oh well. I have the haynes book and it pretty well shows the disassembly but I'm still nervous about it. (though I'm sure if I can rebuild an engine I can rebuild a carb) I'm just forging new territory. Any links anyone has with carb info in it are very welcome. Thanks all.
