750R Starter Drive???
Hi, this is my 1st post in the forums, i am very new to the street bike world. I just bought an 87 750r for a really great deal. The guy said it needs a new starter drive. It takes a long time to get the bike started because it seems the teeth are ground down and arent really grabbing to turn the engine over. Ive looked up "starter drive" on a 750r and found nothing. If anyone knows wut i need to replace or how difficult this will be i would greatly appreciate some input. I plan on getting hardcore into riding and would love to get this bike going asap. Once running the bike sounds amazing. I have to ride it!! pls help!! Thanks in advance

RE: 750R Starter Drive???
welcome to the forums!! I'm guessing the starter teeth are ground down. I think what they're refering to as the drive is the gear that pops out when you hit the start button. i don't know if you can change just the gear or if you have to change the entire starter. If it was me, I would change the entire starter assy....... If the gear is bad, the starter's probably not far behind it!! Gl man....

I think your right, ive been trying to look that up and it seems you can only change em out on PWC but no motorcylcles. Hopefully i can find a place that sells em cheap, and that the job isnt tooooo hard. Thanks for the help.

RE: 750R Starter Drive???
So i pulled the starter and wow, no teeth at all, which made me happy Now i know the problem for sure. The thing im worried about is the "flywheel" (not sure if thats wut its called but bear with me). It has about 8 or nine teeth missing from one section which only makes up a small portion of the circumference. Will having 90% of the teeth be okay? Im sure that is a hard to find part and even harder to change. I figure if i hit "the patch" of missing teeth i can roll the bike a few inches and find fresh meat. Correct me if im wrong but that will work right?

Do not mess with an unbalanced piece of equipment (teeth). More things will happen and the prob will only get worse and be more expensive.
