1992 Ninja 250, Engine Won't Start if Fuel Fill Overflows
Hi:
The following problem is VERY repeatable and I have no idea why it happens...
On my 1992 KAW EX250 Ninja there are three (drain / vent?)holes around the gas fill pipe. They are on the outside of the pipe so that they're not sealed by the gas cover gasket.
If I overflow the fuel fill by just a little and gas gets into these holes, the engine will start, sputter and die. After a couple of minutes, it will start again but as soon as you advance the throttle, it dies. Wait a few minutes, try it again, same thing. This can go on for hours and the engine won't run more than a few seconds after each start. Only after letting the bike sit overnight will it actually start and run.
Incidentally, I used to notice after I washed the bike the same thing happened. I think water would get into these holes and cause the same problem
What causes this?
Thanks
