Default 1989 zx10 pair removal

Hello i just bought a 1989 zx10 and purchased a new exhaust, jet kit,and k&n clamp on filters. I thought i had removed the pair system correctly but when i started the bike back up it would idle rough not rev and was backfireing. So i took the filters off reinstalled the factory airbox and the hoses and tubes from the pair and it runs fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you need to fine tune your carb adjustments. (Did you get new needle jets/bleed pipes as well?) Then document your midrange and full power runs along with your plug readings. I have not run pods before, but that sounds like where I would start. Good luck and keep us posted on the results. I am trying to locate the vacuum line routing on the evap system for this ride before I comment too much on that possibility. Generally, you reverse the valve cover reed valves, remove the cannister and hoses, and tie in the carb vacuum lines. But as mentioned, I am looking at a ZX11 model and am not 100% sure.

Welcome to KF

+1 Any time you change the airflow you have to change the fuel to match, could be alot of testing, to get it just right but its worth it. Good luck!
