1984 KX 125 Project - Need to find parts/technical specs
Hey all, I just joined.
A few years back, I came across a 1984 Kawasaki KX125 deal I could not pass up. I left the bike for a while but am now trying get her running. At first, It seemed that it was just a few engine issues. I have now sunk $600 into a bottom end rebuild, another 150 into to end parts and misc bits. As I try to put it back together, I am noticing many things wrong that need addressing.
I need technical guidance. Parts are scarce and finding replacements is almost impossible. I do want to see this baby running again (and ride it like I stole it).
1. When I tried to put the clutch assembly back onto the driveshaft, I noticed that the clutch hub bolt is stripped. I tries to measure it with a thread pitch device and deduced it was an M16 X 1.0 MM jamb nut, but I could be wrong. I have two questions. A, is the measurement correct; and B, does anyone know where I can get one? I think the original is hardened tool steel as the torque specs say 72 Ft/lbs however with a proper tabbed lock nut (like the 250CC model), can a stainless or other material clutch hub nut work? I need both the nut and washer. Is there any supplier that can help?
2. I looked at the rear suspension and found a number of parts worn beyond service limits. These include the steel bushing for the main swing arm pivot. These appear to have originall measured 20MM OD, 15 or 16 MM ID and made of 1020 cold rolled steel (just a guess). I need two of these but cannot seem to find them. Does anyone know where I can at least get the measurements and technical data ( or a roller bearing replacement)?
3. When I Google 1984 KX 125, all the photos show a rear disc brake. (LINK: https://www.google.com/search?q=1984...NTQcRcSf_VkRtM). To fix her, I recently downloaded a service manual in PDF format from https://www.manualslib.com/manual/73...aki-Kx125.html. The manual shows the bikes had rear disc brakes. Being stubborn and believing I should keep the bike original, I ordered a replacement rear brake hub via eBay. I received two, neither of which fit. Does anyone know where I can find the measurements for the original item and ascertain the correct parts?
How can I tell if the rear wheel I have is the correct KX 125 wheel for that year?
I know this is a lot to ask for a noob and am grateful for any advice. Yes, I will concede that $-wise, it makes far more sense to buy a used newer KX model however I really want to see this one running again.
Thank you in advance for any advice or pointers.
