1979 KE125 key problem
I got a KE125 and the ignition switch was damaged and half torn off. Previous owner had lost the keys several years back and tried to by-pass it. It has been sitting in a shed for around 15 years. Wondering if there is a way I can put a toggle switch in there or some kind of other switch to bypass where the key switch was?? Any help would be great. thanks.

hmmm, I would say yes depending on the amp rating and if you did not care of the Park position either. (6 wires total off of the ignition? right?)
The white (from the rectifier and battery +) and the BR ( the switched leg from the ignition to the meter lights) and the BK/W wire ( to the CDI unit) are the main wires. The BK/W wire is also the wire going into the on/off switch. (Why add another switch if one is already there.)
So I would use the W and the BR wires on one leg of the on/off switch (main power) then on the other leg of the on/off switch keep the BK/W wire connected.
I have not tried this so do not make me liable for this info. I am going off of my 78 TE 250 factory manual and the binding is abit weak so no copies made for illustration.
Good luck with this and keep us informed without blowing yourself up. lol
Welcome to KF.

I'm going to go with yes, anything can be done with enough time money and patience, and a good wireing diagram, however the question is, will the effort to bypass it be less than the cost to fix it. Welcome to KF, and get some pics up brotha!

Only has four wires. Not sure how to hook them for them to work. I havent been able to find a replacement keyed ignition switch. There are two black wires (cant remember what color stripes they have), a brown wire, and one other wire that I cant remember the color for sure (think it was white). Will work on getting some pictures though not sure they will help much either.

Hmmm, well your going to have to figure out which wires need to be connected to turn it on. You wont get the Albert Einstein hair by crossing them until it works but you may burn up a fuse or two if you dont have the wiring diagram, I wouldnt do it unless I was desperate. But once you figure out what the wires do, it should be cake, altho it may take more than one toggle or a 3 position switch to get full functionality. Let us know how it goes.

hmm, hit up the net for salvage yards for the replacement keyed part. The 125 should make for a nice trail bike, but why hack into it if the parts are still available? (as mentioned above by Prom)
SWITCH ASSY,IGNITION
KE125-A6
572354-001
goes for around $62 for the ignition assembly. Make sure that you ask about if the keys are included to match.

The switch is what I was referring to as the cylinder. Ok, maybe I am not understanding correctly.
