Maybe this post will help out other dumb newbies like me, but I just found out that the 250s don't havea gas gauge! Whodda thunk? So, I am dieing to ask: Has anyone ran out of gas and found themselves stranded on the road?Do these bikes have reserve tanks?

LOL yes they do have a reserve. Left side of bike, right below the gas tank. I ran out of gas back when i had my 250. I was about 10 miles from home, it was friday, i just finished up class so i just wanted to get home. I took the exit and the bike just lost power, ran like crap and then died. I knew i was out of gas, so i went to switch it over to the reserve and then i had a flash back. I remembered thati had already had it on reserve. LOL at this point i was so mad i busted out laughing. Good thing i was close with my GF parents. Thay brought me out some gas i had to take it slow and follow them home. That sucked. I have never done it since.

How big was the reserve tank? How do you judge how much gas you have in the tank if their is no gauge?

I've had to switch my 500 on to reserve - I had plenty enough there to get me to the gas station which was about 5 minutes away. One of the first times I drove my bike (just before I actually got my license) I ran her quite awhile before she quit (oopss, pulled a newbie mistake and put it on reserve instead of 'On')

The best piece of advice that I can give you is fill the bike up and run her until you have to switch to reserve and keep an eye on how many miles/kilometers you put on. Keeping in mind that this will vary depending on how hard your driving. Trust me, you'll get used to it and will have a pretty good idea when you need gas before you have to switch it to reserve. I'd give you some numbers but I can't remember - its been a long winter!!

Good luck!

you will eventually know when to fill up. always reset your trip counter after fillups.

Im pretty sure you can aleast get 20-30 miles, but please dont quote me on that. I think the reserve is a little less than a gallon.
