How'd you wire it? (Cigarette Ligher Adapter, custom cable, ???)

Where'd you mount it? (Store-bought Mount? Tank Bag? or custom stealthy install?)

How do you hear it? (I nearly always wear earplugs, so with that, windnoise, etc... is it hard?)

Do you take it with you when going to the store? (I'd imagine they'd be prime for grab & run...)

how did you wire it up ns and how much total would i be looking at spending. im in need of one. is it possible to make it multi vehicle friendly ? can i go from car to car to car to truck to truck to truck to bike ?

 

There is an optional power cord that looks like a phone cord and then I just found the ignition wire under the seat and attached it there, so when the key is turned on the unit has power.

With the fairing bracket the unit is totaly transferable between vehicles. Mine is held on to the bracket by velcro and a strap just to make sure.

You will be spending about 350.00 for the detector, spider mount 50.00, power cord 20.00, HARD alert system 165.00. No more speeding tickets priceless.

I've ordered the RX50 (pretty much the same inside as the 8500 X50, Bel and Escort are the same company now). It's a bit smaller, and the display is flush forward, instead of angled like on the 8500, and hey, it's a little cheaper. No cool blue display though .

Also picked up that stand/fairing mount http://www.radarbusters.com/products...unts/20992.asp. I was looking to see how hard it would be to do a more stealthy install, just in case you get pulled over, and if it's out of sight, I'd have one less thing to have to take off the bike and take with me wherever I go. But it looks like there isn't enough room in any of the cool places I'd like to put it, unless I tore apart the detector... [:'(]

I'm planning on mounting it FAR over on the left hand side, low enough to be under the windshield in case it starts raining (I live in Seattle...). There's another bolt for the instrument cluster that's the same size as the mirror mount/fairing bolt that might just give me the perfect position with that mount. I'll take pics and show you all when it arrives.

I've also picked up an Autocom headset/amp/mixer for my bike so I can listen to tunes, answer a phone call totally hands-free if need be, and maybe hook up an FRS radio if any of my buddies decide to get one... and so far it works great! There's an AUX in for the RD, so we'll see how well that works. With all these electrical accessories on the bike, I'd like to make it as clean an install as possible, so I got a Marsee eTankBag off Ebay for cheap, and I'm going to have to make some custom power cables to hook it all up.

Sounds like a great set up, would be cool to use the phone while riding.
If you want to hide the detector check and see if it will fit in the nose. I have seen it done on the R1, you have to take a piece of Styrofoam and build a holder foe the detector but one it is installed you can not see it. It is no longer easily transferable to another vehicle either though.

I like being able to see the screen so you can tell the type of alert and not be slowing for super market doors.

I tried, there isn't much of a nose on my bike, and what there is, the detector won't really fit w/o taking it apart me thinks.

I also got the RX65 'cause it has voice band indentification... e.g... All the bands have different sounding beeps, but if one of them beeps more than a few times or has a strong signal, it'll say "X Band"... or "K-A Band"... and then go on beeping, so maybe I'll try harder to mount it in the hard-to-get-at place. I could even remote-mount a mute/volume button, and an alert light that comes off the smart cord. I guess it all depends on how much I want to take the thing apart... Didn't think of styrofoam for a holder, that might be an option.. if a bit squeaky... Maybe some softer hard foam... thnx for the idea!

Yes beung able to determin the type of alert is a must. Mine is mounted so I can glance down to read it off the display. Here in cali if you are getting a KA alert you better be on the brakes cause that is 100% CHP.
