Newbie question

RE: Newbie question
After you wash your bike:
1. Take a short ride around the block once or twice to heat the chain up.
2. Spray WD-40 on a rag and wipe off chain.
3. Repeat step 2.
4. Wipe chain with dry rag. Let set for about 10 minutes to dry.
5. Spray lub of choice. I use Bel-Ray Super Clean. Sprays on white so you can see it.
6. Let set up about 15 minutes then go ride.
Always lube chain when hot, adjust when cold.

RE: Newbie question
I use WD-40 for cleaning and the BelRay chain lube. My chain on the 7r lasts two seasons of racing, the 10r is still an infant so no results yet. I will clean and lube the chain after two fuel fills generally.

chain wax is another way to lube your chain, i've never used it, but I think your supposed to be able to go longer without having to relube it, but its messy

RE: Newbie question
Yeah, I used to use chain wax back in the day.... so long as you let it set and thicken before riding, it isn't messy at all. If you go right after you spray it - it will fling all over your undertail. Unless I hear something majorly different - I will be using chain wax when I get the 9.

RE: Newbie question
yeah chain wax is what i use. i wash my bike, ride it for about 5 mins to warm up the chain then come back home and put it on the stand and give the whole chain a good coat while hand spinning the rear tire then let it sit for a little while, and good to go. its not messy.

I use this stuff about every 500 miles. No sling off and its uber looby.

RE: Newbie question
I use that same chain wax. Believe it or not I use a helluva lot of simple green to clean the chain because I hear it doesn't jack up the o-rings. That wax stuff is clean, and if you let it sit in for about 10 mins on the chain after application it's just fine. Just me though.
