many questions to ask. Hoping to get some answers :)
Hi there everyone. First time here. Been riding for about a year. I bought a 98 zx6r from my co-worker. It had no muffler! But I replaced that and now I have one on. When the muffler was put on I heard so many sounds.
-I was wondering, what is the problem when you start hearing rattling near the engine. I went to the bike shop and they said it might be the cam shaft tensioner. I saw some other post saying that it was normal to have that noise. Its only bad when you start hearing it like marbles just jumping around for a long time. Is that normal to have that noise when im reving up to a certain point?
-Also i have tires that are Front 120/60 17 and Rear 170/60 17. Could I replace it with tires that are Front 120/70 17 rear 180/55 17?
-I bought new sprockets front and back. When I buy a chain for it, is it better to have more or less links on it? The sprockets are 520.

As far as the noise. Its hard to tell unless we can hear it. I thought mine was overly noisy untill I heard another 636 next to time and noticed they sounded almost the same. There is no harm in replaced the cam chain tensioner. You can get an ape tensioner for about 60$ on ebay. The 180 rear tire I don't think will fit. You swing arm most likely is not wide enough to fit that size tire.

There are several Kawi models that have crappy tensioners. I wouldn't doubt that your cam tensioner is bad also. As aszrael1266 said, buy the APE manual tensioner. It won't wear out, and it will not ever go bad.

It has 23k on it. Also thanks for telling me about the ape tensioner. ill be sure to look that up. Ive been told it would cost about 200 dollars to fix it.

I don't think it will cost that much. I got my part for 60 and the labor to have it put on is 80. If you take it to a dealer and have them put a stock one on then yea its going to be over 200

Yeah if you hear the noise at a higher rpm range then its more than likey not the cam chain ten. if it is you would only hear that awful noise at idle and lower rpm, anything over like 3200 you shouldnt be hearing it
