Default Light Street Bikes, why are there none?

Ok, first off, i'm in NO way shape or form looking to buy a new bike. I'm bored, and spending my free time looking at them online

But, i've noticed that there really are no lightweight bikes, at all. Nothing at all that's under 400lbs, is over 250cc, and has any sort of emphasis on performance.

I don't know much about sports bikes, hell, I don't even own one (I was raised off of the road), so I myself am not sure why this is.

Maybe supermoto was intended to fit this gap?

Thoughts?

I'd love to scoot around town on a more upright (but not "dirt bike" esque upright) seated bike, that's light enough to throw around at will, yet still packs enough punch to force defecation when the twisty grips are opened all the way up.

The Triumph daytona 675 weighs the least of all the middle sized sportbikes. I think dry weight is something like 370lbs. If you look at the 600-750cc sportbikes from just ten years ago, you will notice since then, they have slimmed up quite a bit.

Well, i've been browsing around a bit more, and i've seen a grand total of three street bikes over 250cc and under 400 lbs.

The Suzuki Street Fighter styled SV650, the Yamaha YZF-R6, and the Honda (blech) CBR600.

The CBR and YZF surprised me, considering that they had full fairings.

They all seem to have a race oriented seating position though, which i'd imagine would make the bike harder to maneuver in whippy/snappy fashion than a more upright position.

Almost all of the new600's, and 1000's are under 400lbs aren't they?

If you want light just go street legal super moto. That would be fun, you could wheelie all the time with low cost too.

I'd say that 370 is still about "**** your pants when the bike goes sideways" heavy.
