O mate your accident looked bad, im a courier around central london. and the lessonI have learnt is dont take anything for granted when it comes to cars, buses, taxis, pushbikes they do the most stupid things and cause accidents. Took me a couple of knocks to learn this,I even got knocked off from behind on my big bike lessons!!!
My tip for all bikers is pretend that no other vechile can see you, becuase the chances are they havent, they dont look further than there bonnet. very rarely use there mirrors and they generaly have terribleobservation, i was the same, now my car driving has improved so much since riding the bike!
When comming upto junctions wheather your light is green or orange dont accelerate let the bike naturaly slow for a second and take a quick look left and right when you know no one has gone trhough a red light throttle back up, this might seem obvious but its easy to forget when your enjoying a ride. If i didnt use this practice i would have been killed about 6 times now!! specialy at night!
take care and stay alive!

Glad your still in one piece! F---ing cars!, they never look and everybody wants to race wheather its a sports car or a honda with some fart exhaust on it! You got lucky man....relax and heal quicky.

I always wear leather no matter how hot anyway, even leather pants with knee cups.

Glad to see you're ok, I recently got my first bike and it's stories like yours that inspired me to actually wear my protective gear while riding, I always have my helmet, gloves, and jacket...pants and shoes are still missing though. Still havent been able to find a pair I like. Anyways, I'm not trying to change the subject or steal your thunder man, but I'm curious, you said you were just wearing tennis shoes? How well did they protect your feet? I'm just asking because I find it to be a lot more comfortable to ride in sneakers than in boots but if it really makes a difference as youre rolling down the pavement (God forbid) I'd pick the boots.

Again, I'm glad to hear you made it out with your life and your story is a reminder to always wear your gear, cause you never know....

Can I suggest you do a Stay Upright course as well, get your folks to give you one for birthday or christmas or something if you cant afford it. Trust me it's worth more than a good helmet and all the protective gear you can buy http://www.stayupright.com.au/
glad to hear your healing up ok and your getting the new bike
Cheers

P.S. wheres the pix? lol
