Default How much would you pay?

Hello,

I'm new to the forum. Just passed my Motorcycle Safety Training this weekend and looking to get a ninja 250r now that I'm getting my motorcycle license. I seen a 2009 Ninja 250R with 6000 miles listed for $3000. Only problem is, its a salvaged title, due to theft recovery (not an auto accident). The bike itself, looks really clean. Since this is my first bike, I wanted to get something used, that I wouldn't mind if it got banged up here or there, but still looks good. I'm thinking this is the perfect canidate. I'm just hesitate cause of that salvage title. I know once I'm more confortable riding and ready to get a brand new bike, I'll probably have a hard time reselling this one. Since I'll probably be at a loss later on down the road, I was thinking of offering less than the sellers asking price. What would you guys offer? Is his asking price reasonable for a salvaged bike? Would you be against buying a salvaged bike, even if it was only salvaged for theft?

Thanks for all of your help!

Welcome to KF.

As you mentioned, a loss may be inevitable, but with a salvage title and it being a 250, I would offer $2k. good luck and shop around. The 250 is a good learning ride, but don't take a loss in the shorts to find out.

+1 salvage titles kill the resell and theft recoveries usually have electrical problems which can be difficult to find.

Thanks for all of your input. I think I'll pass on this one and shop around a bit more.

first bike? don't pay too much-- almost everyone moves on to something different, it sometimes takes a little while to figure out just what you comfortable with; even if you know your a sportbike person there are many so choose from it'll make your head spin.

My first I had for a little over a year- put 15k miles on it --rode it through rain and snow
I started with something that was old (10 years) but ran good and didn't look too bad(not wrecked) paid 1 dollar per cc dropped it 4 times(low speed or "knock" overs) before I sold it and got my money back out of it. moved on to bigger and better.

I ended up going with a new bike. I didn't want to get anything older than a 2008, so price-wise between new and used, it was within $1000 range. So I went for the new one. Figured the piece of mind was worth it, not having to worry about the problems that can come with a used bike. Couldn't be any happier with my decision.

Got a 2010 Ninja 250R Special Edition Red & Black
