Unfortunately, I have to agree with Notstock, but it seems a bit like overkill on their part (IMO). Save up your money and when you turn 18, maybe things will be a bit different. I wouldn't break the rules, cause that's when something WILL happen and then you will never be able to do it. Just bide your time and maybe they will see that with proper training and proper gear, you will be safe out there. Sorry man

good luck with this whole situation. sometimes parents are so strict and they dont even see it. props to you for not havin any citations. knock on wood. but hopefully they dont make you quit ridin your dirt bike. but have fun with that for now. soon you will be able to get one. and when you do youll think to your self it was worth the wait. dont rush into things. the quicker you rush into the quicker you get in trouble for it. just keep bein honest and keep showing them examples of how good you are. and finally you either move out or they give in.

+1 BNinja. don't feel too bad about your situation your parents will come around. Well maybe, hell I bought my 636 in March and I told my mom for a year I would be getting one. She absolutley forbid it! Keep in mind this is my 13th bike. But here's the kicker...I'm 37 years old! [sm=icon_rock.gif]and she's still peesed!..so it might be a long road ahead of ya but all in all stay out of trouble, start off small and learn all you can. Good luck!

Ah, the parent hurdle. I remember in high school when i first brought up the notion that i would like a motorcycle, my mom was all, "well... i don't know. a motorcycle? aren't they dangerous? blah blah blah..." Then within that week a family friend's son died doing a wheelie down the interstate. (totaly dumb, he was doing 100+ for a long time and when he set the wheel down it sent him into a guard rail). So that squashed any chance of me getting a bike then.

But now i'm 21, I told my mom i was buying a bike and although she didn't quite see eye to eye, I did it anyway. I bought the gear, i'm going to take an MSF course, reading books about it and getting a lot of info from forums like this- just showing that i'm being as safe and prepared as i can be.

Good luck, maybe their stance on bikeswill change![sm=signs003.gif]

Ask them if you could take a rider's course at least. I don't know about where you live but there is a HD dealer that has classes and they supply just about everything. Maybe if you take the course and pass they MIGHT be open a little more. Show responsibility though by asking to take a course just to make "sure" you like riding on the street and to gain experience and knowledge of street bikes. Might work, might not but worth a try.

Maybe they don't to pay the high insurence that you would be paying at the age of 17 or all of the bills that might be added on because they are still responsable for you at that age and they will have to pay for it, remember at 17 you still can't sign any legal contracts or held responsable for them your parents are.

I'm not trying to say that you don't have the right to have one but alot of responsability comes with them.

We all had dirt bikes when I was growing up...my dad had a street bike....and my mom rode with him....my dad didn't have a problem when I told him I got a bike.....my mom had already passed but I think she would have said "be careful...keep both wheels on the ground" she always told me that LOL

Sorry to hear that man. your folks are just lookin out for you. 2 years ago my army buddy fromWisconsin, Mike Sr. was going through the same thing with his son Mike. Sr talked Toni (mom) into allowing him to get a street 250. 2 weeks later he hit a deer, a freakin deer. he died at the scene. they have to live with their decision. there is no good answer dude. we just do what we think is best as parents, good, bad or indifferent. save your money, be responsible, do what you want when you move out.
