GT550 G4 is being a pain in the ****, help?
I bought a gt550 in pieces the other day. ive assembles most of it and the guy assured me it was running a couple of years ago before he dismantled it...i kinda beleive him. anyway im having problems with the starter, i can hear it click when i try to start, the batterys fine(jumper pack) i think its the solenoid but how do i check? the moter turns over when i bypas the solenoid and run the starter right off the battery the engine turns ok. i dont want to buy a new solenoid if its not that. any tips to check it or any other ideas what it might be?
cheers fellas (and ladies)

Sounds like you have already found the solenoid to be bad or the relay not making to energize the solenoid with your tests so far. I do not have a manual on this bike to comment. good luck
Welcome to KF. Post up some assembly pics of the GT.

thanks for the reply, will put pics on when i get time.
right, the solenoids fine i put 12v accross the swith terminals of the solenoid an it turns the engine over, the problem now is most of the electrics dont work. i have power to the console because it does a check but then everything starts flashing. i have no front or rear lights working and the indicators dont work. all that works at the moment is the neutral light and switch!! im not an electrical expert but am competent, all the connectors are connected etc. any ideas on a common fault or something blatent ive missed?

Hi,
I recently had some carb resetting and, minor wiring work done on my GT 550 G4. Was had the engine rebuilt lately. The battery terminals were typically mangled and corroded, and the Ground Wire was set against my bikes frame for some reason that wasnt clear to me. Another mechanic I handed over the GT to, came along and said the Groudn wire is supposed to be inside the middle battery distill hole. I wasnt sure on this point, but ever since then my bike had a 'flash' of failure, the neutral light goes dim, and theres no electrical responsiveness anywhere for a few seconds. Its happened with the bike off and while running. Its only been 3 days since it started acting/creeping up slowly.
Also the battery generator was plugged in constantly charging the battery, and now hes set it up to auto shut off.
THese are all the changes that were made, i have my suspiscions on the ground wirebeing moved, cause everything before that, electrically, was fine.
Any suggestions? I dont want to fry something as a lot of smoke already nshot out from under my seat somewhere smelt like burning wires.
Im tempted to remove the battery wire grounding system, and take it out all together,
Thanks in advance for any help.
