Default Is this a good bike to start with?

Hey, I'm new here. Right now I'm looking to buy my first street bike here in America. I have about 2 months experience riding a 110cc bike in a third-world town in Peru. No street rules there besides street lights (sort of), you just have to be aware of your surroundings. Just saying that so you know my background.

I've found a 1985 GPZ550 for about $900. It's in good running condition, etc. My question is, is this a good bike to buy? I know the wet weight is about 450 pounds, which is kinda heavy right? I'm also looking at Ninja 250s and 500s, but I'd rather not get the 250, and 500s are a little too expensive for me, even used.

Any information and advice whatsoever is appreciated.

Edit: Some other things: it also has new NGK spark plugs, K&N air filter and crank case breather, Red L.E.D underglowlights, smoke windscreen, Kerker exhaustand amber L.E.D side marker lights.

do you feel comfortable with it ?
Yup, as mentioned. If you are not comfy on the ride whether the weight or handling, etc. Then do not get it. You will know if you will be comfy or not. Price wise? Who cares,as long asyou are happy with the ride.

Buy what you can afford now and feel good one. You can always move up to another when you get more experiance. My first bike was such a piece of crap but I had so much fun. Now 13 bikes later I finally got what I want. Go for it, make sure it's mechanically sound and gear up!

Yes, I'm comfortable with it as far as how I fit on it. I would like to know if it is a good value though? And also if anyone knows anything about these bikes.

Sounds like a good deal to me. The old Kawasaki standard street bikes will sell between $1000-1800 in the states.
