Dual Sport Conversion ALABAMA Help PLEASE!
Converting my KLX450R into dual sport to cross the country on the trans america trail, which consequently requires it to be street legal.
My question is this, has any one on here converted an Off road only machine to street dual sport in Alabama? We have approached the DMV and they sent us to a State Inspector for rebuilt titled vehicles and he stated if it was an off road vehicle that he couldn't help us. So I Am back to square one.
I know what other people have done in other states as I have read this all over the internet, and that doesn't help here in Alabama, so please only Alabama conversions to help clairfy the process here.
Thanks, New Member Sept 2008!You may have read this thread in other forums as I am looking for anyone who can assist me. Some large forums have been little or no help, so if you have any info at all please share.

RE: Dual Sport Conversion ALABAMA Help PLEASE!
If you could DS a 450 we all would buy one. Sell it and get the Husky TE 610 Or buy the KLX 250, but if you are doing any cross country really the only practical bike would be the KLR 650.

Agree with Deej and EMS; If you're positively stuck on transforming this bike, I'd personally mod it for the street (turn signals, dual-sport rubber, mirrors, head/tail lights, anything to favorably sway the inspector) and "sell" it to a friend out of state who can get it retitled as a dual-sport. I'm not familiar with Bala-ama bike laws, so I won't waste your time. However, I think you probably have more headaches doing it this way, than just trading or borrowing another bike. Even if it's a salvage titled bike, you're trying to turn a mountain goat into a cheetah.
