I agree- take the saftey course- well worth it if you are a begginer. Also, the 250 is a great starting bike- it's light and puts around town great- however, it can be outgrown REAL fast. I started on one.

If you are comfortable with your dirt bike riding experience, take the MSF course and jump to a 600cc. Just take it easy and don't push the envelope right away.

Also, wear gear helmet, jacket, boots/pants .. . .gloves... be safe when you are learning... and riding in general. Don't worry too much about accidents, that frame of mind will ruin rides and make you ride like chit. Just be aware of your surroundings and ride safe.

Like the old saying goes- there are only 2 types of riders, those that have gone down and those that will.

Welcome to the forums and have fun with what ever you buy- and post pics!

I had some (mostly dirt) experience, took the MSF course, and bought a new zzr 600 which has kept me happy for a few years now (with a few go-faster parts of course), it is all just a matter of what you want to do, and where you are the most comfortable. Personally, I wouldn't start smaller than a 500.

MY $0.02 is since you have some riding expereince one dirt bikes, might as well jump up to the 600. you will out grow the 250 fast. Plus it really doesnt matter what size bike you start out on as long as you use your head and not be dumb about it
