Clarify shifting gears

RE: Clarify shifting gears
I know the slipper clutch's purpose is not to upset the bike when downshifting through higher rpm's. However, you can get the kits from powercommander now that do clutchless upshifting. I prefer to just use the clutch personally.

i am guilty of clutchless upshifting, but only after 2nd gear. however, i only do this when im hauling *** ( thats the technical term ). ive never heard of clutchless downshifting and i will not be one to try it. the clutch is a good thing... use it as much as possible.

RE: Clarify shifting gears
clutchless shifting as long as its done properly is no more harmful to a transmission with dog engagement than an equally fast clutched shift. not just reffering to bikes but cars with dog gears replacing the stock synchro setup. clutcless shifting a synchro tranny will wear out the synchros if you don't revmatch perfectly. coming to the bike world from the performance auto world where i was good enough at shifting that if my clutch seized the only problem was having to use the starter to get rolling and having to turn off the car when coming to a stop, clutchless shifting the bike came naturally.
i still recommend using the clutch for the 1-2 shift since it has the highest RPM drop of all the shifts making the shift a little harder on the chain/rear damper.
