Default California Highway Patrol posts rules for legal lane-splitting by motorcyclists

I read this in today's paper and thought I'd share it here for my fellow CA riders.

Just came across this: MOTORCYLE LANE SHARE STUDY AMONG CALIFORNIA MOTORCYCLISTS AND DRIVERS 2012

http://www.ots.ca.gov/Media_and_Rese...ing_Survey.pdf

Interesting stats. California is the only US state that allows lane sharing. I'm not a bike commuter anymore, so my lane sharing time is way down. I do still "filter" to a stop light to avoid this kind of thing:

Honestly, I think moving faster than the speed of traffic also keeps you safer.

I think in CA, lane splitting has been a thing for so long that it's not really news anymore to me.

...and 18-months later the CHP removes lane splitting guidelines from its website.

Seconded. I'm on a slower bike than my last one, and I've had someone who was in a big damn hurry almost run me over.

Also, if you're moving, people see you. When you're pacing traffic, you just...disappear.

"Now, under pressure from a citizen who is opposed to lane-splitting, the CHP has retreated from the subject and taken down its guidelines."

Who is this one person that can get the CHP to do his bidding? Maybe every motorcyclist should call the CHP and ask for a printed copy of the lane sharing safety guide.... or you can just download it off the internet archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20140425...guidelines.pdf
