I would honestly have to say loosing control on the highway, or getting hit by a drunk driver. Drunk driver mainly because of, you know, getting hit, lol, and loosing control because it would be so scary beforehand and then afterwards your just like f**k!

I know this will make everybody groan, but how many of us actually "practice" our worst case scenarios? Emergency braking, swerving, riding onto the berm, intentionally riding in the rain, etc? I'm not suggesting we go out and intentionally do stupid crap with other vehicles, but when you're on that back country road, PRETEND a deer comes out of the woods, PRETEND a scrap 2x4 with nails in it fallsout of a truck, PRETEND that oncoming car has an idiot texting and moves over into your lane. Get out there when it's raining!! It's going to happen. Better to have the control over the situation, than the situation surprise you and NOT have control. I know this sounds preachy, but I don't want to lose any poster on this site because of something stupid. Visualize and practice.Make it real, because tomorrow it may be.
Sorry for the sermon. [:'(]

I actually blame it on my husband, who kept telling me how important it was to "counter steer". I'd been counter-steering, unconsciously, in the lean. He made me more conscious of it, so I lost the 'feel' when I went into a curve, all I could think about was; okay, I have to counter steer, I have to counter steer...
Lol, the curve continued to go left, I continued to go straight.
I told him later to shut up, no more instruction...he was messing up what was coming natural to me already. Not to mention that we had just done 30 miles of nothing but curves 'before' he reminded me of that! He's a worrier.

Thanks for the nod, D. I've always felt the term "countersteer" was really counter-intuitive. I agree;the textbook can get in the way of instinct. Sometimes the biggest threat is conflicting information in our heads, right at that critical moment.Manyriderspractice enough other stupid crap, like wheelies and stunting and traction at the edge, but fail to practice the stuff that may save their hide and/or bikes. (I guess I'm old enough to realize this....funny how age does this to you.)
