Biggest Rider Fears?

RE: Biggest Rider Fears?
Getting t-boned by a car that didn't stop at their red-light.
But seriously, one of my neighbors (weirdo) was backed over by a school bus here in the neighborhood before I moved in...on his motorcycle.
1. How do you not see a school bus in front of you?
2. WHy would you pull up that close to it?
3. Why would you sit on your bike, ignoring the back-up alarm, and let it run over you?
I have talked to the guy and his only complaint is that the local government didn't award him a bunch of money for it. Freakin moron.

RE: Biggest Rider Fears?
I know this will make everybody groan, but how many of us actually "practice" our worst case scenarios? Emergency braking, swerving, riding onto the berm, intentionally riding in the rain, etc? I'm not suggesting we go out and intentionally do stupid crap with other vehicles, but when you're on that back country road, PRETEND a deer comes out of the woods, PRETEND a scrap 2x4 with nails in it fallsout of a truck, PRETEND that oncoming car has an idiot texting and moves over into your lane. Get out there when it's raining!! It's going to happen. Better to have the control over the situation, than the situation surprise you and NOT have control. I know this sounds preachy, but I don't want to lose any poster on this site because of something stupid. Visualize and practice.Make it real, because tomorrow it may be.
Sorry for the sermon. [:'(]

RE: Biggest Rider Fears?
well im in a different game than the street bikes.....
what scares me on the road .... cages... and people not seeing me and pulling out in front of me, and eer running out, i tend to find the gravel roads to ride being a dirt bike and all.
off road.... not much, because i know there isnt gonna be a minivan pulling out in front of me or anything... good question, i dont know what scares me off road, im very verycomfortable in the dirt, i could say stuff like maybe getting a flat at any speed, but thats a good question ill have to think about it.
