All the info I read about the gap over the years is phenomenal, pics I have seen and stories I have read make it out to be one of the best riding spots in the us. Only problem is probably the crowds.

Hope someone organizes a ride this summer or spring here in so cal. Maybe a track day [sm=bounceybounce.gif]

Good call on the crowds. It's so bad in the summer you wouldn't believe it. My buddy and I don't even bother going north except on monday, maybe tuesday in the morning. We ride up there mostly in the fall, some winter and early spring. Most people don't like being cold. The problem with riding Blood Mountain, Deals or the Dragon so close to the winter is the peat gravel that's put down for the snowy times. It can get hairy if it's really thick. No trouble when it's light though just don't ride to close to the guy in front of you, might need a new paint job when it's over.

I here you on the weekday riding, here in cali we have some pretty popular spots and the weekends are packed with cars as well as bikes. Last trip I took to Polamar Mnt on a tuesday I only saw 3 bikes and would ride for 10-15 mins and not see anyone. It was great!

The two times that my dad and my uncle have slayed the dragon - they went in September and rode it through the week. They avoided riding it on the weekend. Both said it wasn't too bad traffic wise then and the temps were pretty good.

It has got to suck having a lot of traffic around - I'm glad that I live where I do! Generally not much traffic at all, at least not compared to what you guys get!

Yea... the traffic really sucks. The North Atlanta/North Georgia traffic is no exception. Having a motorcycle really eases the pain though, until you try to ride in the popular spots when everyone else is. The police up north in the mountains have waged a war against sport bike riders. They're using helocopters and crazy speed traps to catch anyone who wants to clown around. On the weekdays you hardly see a cop up there. The other problem is there are more idiot newby riders on the mountain then anything. You get riders breaking yellow all the time because they couldn't hold the line or just don't know what they're doing. Tons of fatalities.
