Default Advice for choosing tires

So how do I choose tires for my bike? I mostly commute but every once in a while I hit the twisties so I don't get a flat spot too soon. I'm not a stunter, though. No crazy stuff. Anyone have some general advice on what to look for, favorite brands, etc?

Thanks!

I do the same as you as far as commute. I bought the dunlop qualifiers good tire and grips real well... I heard pilot powers are real good to, but the wear rate is higher than the dunlop.... also the conti sport attack tire is rated as the next best tire equivalent to the dunlops and other brand supersport tires.

ive got the pilot powers, sticky at any temp. i've put about 5k on my rear tire, wheeling alot and accelingeration hard and a trip to the dragon, and I figure i can get probably another 1500-2000 miles out of it . when at the dragon, I was at full lean, scaping everygthing and the tires just wanted to be pushed more, i couldn't of been happier. wet traction is amazing. I've heard good things about the dunlop qualifers, the coni sport attacks i've heard had things about, mostly stickness at low temps. I don't wheelie anymore since my wreck, but I look at it this way, the ONLY thing keeping me off the ground is my tires, and I only trust the pilot powers. the pilot powers and dunlop qualifers are equally priced and are about the most expensive "street" tire you will find.
