600 mi "first service" is a croc!
So I got my 600 mi service today. I had a feeling it was going to be BS, but I was told by several people that I had to let the dealer do this service to keep my warranty valid. What a big steaming pile of BS that was. I paid $195 for what amounted to not much more than looking over my new bike and changing the oil. That will be the last time they service my bike for anything unless it's warranty work. What a rip off!

It is COMPLETELY UNTRUE that you must have a dealer do the first service for Warranty validation. There are in fact laws that state you can complete your own services provided that you keep detailed records of the mileage, what was serviced, and/or receipts from your work.

I figured that was probably the case. But, I'm in the car business and the people who service their own vehicles always have to fight to get the warranty to cover repairs. BUT... like I said, that will be the last time they touch my bike unless they're footing the bill. That just pissed me off. It only took the guy about 45 mins!

Gotta keep documentation of your work because like you said, the manufacturer will fight you on warranty claims if you can't back up your service with detailed records of what you did, and how you did it.

yeah, haha, laugh it up. Jokes on me. Lesson learned. I hope other new bike buyers read this before they go spend a bunch of money for nothing.
