From 550 to 1000?
New to the KF so I'll try not to embarass myself too badly. My situation:
Been riding an '81 KZ550 for 10 years, until a month ago when I met violently (but thankfully at low speed) with a Honda Civic in a suicide lane... fault was mine, and the bike paid the price. I miss it like I'd miss my right hand, (and that does all my favorite things.) Not to mention it wasmy commutevehicle saving literally hours a week onBay Area Freeways. I'm nowin the market for a new ride. I recently discoveredtheConcours.I think I'm in love.I'm poor so only looking at used. My question is: I've never ridden anything larger than the KZ550 and I'm tall, but not big... How different is the feel of a 1000cc touring bike to that of a bike half it's size? Any wisdom is greatly appreciated!

RE: From 550 to 1000?
Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you're OK though!! Welcome to KF.
The Connie is a "blue collar Goldwing." Definitely tried and true, with lots of support out there. It will feel a bit bulkier than your 550, but you'll also appreciate (I think) the extra weight and power if you commute alot.Gas mileage probably won't be quite as good as the 550, but I recommend a test ride on the Connie. Only you will know if you like it. There's a Concours riders forum; see what they have to say regarding best years, things to watch, etc.

RE: From 550 to 1000?
Thanks jeffzx9 for the info re:bulk and power. I've never ridden anything with a full fairing...
A test ride is definitely the answer. And thanks for the welcome kawi750r.
And yes, I'm glad I'm OK too! There were parts of me that weren't for a while though. I don't know what I hit going over the top and spinning around, but the bruises were in BAD places and wicked dark.
Again, thanks for the advice... I'll check out a Connie forum next.
