250R 500R or 650R - which one?

I'm not much for the 650r ninja. I did love my 05' 636 but it had to go before I did. It's not always about size it's about riding skill. A 250r with a little tunning and a properly tuned suspension will kill a bigger bike in the twisties. The highways are not 200 km/p plus. So who needs a bigger bike. Second the insurance saving. I pay less $300.00 a year full coverage. On a negative after driving a 636 ninja anything smaller never measure up...

I agree with the choice of a 250R. Your son is too young and way too much peer pressure on having a 650R. I remember when I was 19 and was about to buy a GSXR-600 but couldn't afford it since I transfered to a University. I would have killed myself on that with my "Superman" complex you have at that age. I didn't get my first bike which is a 650R until last year, I'm 25 now. I don't agree with William on a "250R is the only starter bike" since I agree with it's all about maturity and attitude on the road. The 650R is a very powerful bike and I have laid mine down twice so far, only rashed up the plastic and broke pegs/clutch lever, but no damage to me since I wear ATGATT. It is dangerous out there cause both my wrecks were not my fault. I was run off the road in parking lots from cars going 45 mph in a 15 mph zone! Chose asphalt over eating hood! Be safe and let him grow into riding. Screw what his buddies think cause he will thank you later!

I just started to ride last august or sept. I have a 2001 ZR7-S. It is a heavy bike, but a great rider. It's a 750cc but would probbably not run with the 250r. Just my opinion but I know first hand that no matter what bike or car you are driving if you can't control yourself when it comes to peer pressure, then you will try and race. Even if you know you will loose. So I personally would rather be on a bike designed a little more for higher speeds and faster stopping, than be on the smaller bike trying to do the same as the bigger bikes. Example>> your son on the 250r tries to keep up with the 650r by holding top speed longer and catching up and then looses it in a turn. Where as being on a more capable bike he may have been able to slow down quicker, or been a close race and not evn hit the high speed. It could go eather way, on the 650r he may try and race a 250r and not realize how fast he is going and have the same outcome. I honestly think he should know what he is capable of and be able to pick out his bike. if he is unsure of his abillity to say know to peer pressure, then maybe he shouldn't be riding. I know a lot of guys who started on 650's and have stayed with them for a long time. They no when to quit and don't care what other people think either. However one friend had a small crotch rocket, not sure what kind, and almost killed himself trying to keep up with the other guys by going to fast because he couldn't accelerate as quickly. He steped up to the biger bike and hasn't had any other problems.

Just make sure it's KAW green. That's the only official ownership color we allow on this site. All of the other photos are re-touched to protect the innocent. (Not that there are any of THOSE people here...)
I love getting the "favorite color" thread fired-up; I've missed you guys!
