Default 250cc v 250cc

Hey guys don't hate me for this question but im left without any other alternatives...ok here goes nothin':

Well, I recently received a coupon that takes off a $1000 on the MSRP of any bike in stock at my dealership. So I was thinkin that (1) since I only have one bike that I cannot completely control with full confidence, (2) my dad and I just got ourlicenses and I wouldn't mind having a riding partner to start out with, (3)the price for 250's are relatively cheap and (4)insurance rates are low for this sort of bike, it might be a good idea to purchase another one. This is the part where you guys are gonna kill me lol. The bikes in question are the Honda Rebel and the Suzuki GZ250. I knowwhat you are thinking, why don't I just go for the Ninja 250. Well the answer isthat my insurance policy is killing me for that bike. They consider the Ninja 250 a sport bike and want to chargeme$900 for it if i am the primary rider as opposed to $300 for the Honda or Suzuki. Believe me, I would love to get the newNinja coming out, its just that I don't have too much money to throw around after purchasing my first prized possession (zx6). The bikes MSRP are both $3200, so I would be getting it at around $2200 plus tax. This time I'll bewise enough not to pay for all the extra warranties and all the additional stuff I don't need.
In conclusion, what do you guys think? Any advice on getting one over the other? I'm still a Kawi guy at heart, but I have to firsttrain on one of the lesser brands before I can master the best of the best, right

For your purposes either will work, they look very similar and will both be good for the old man.

That is so F'd up with the insurance pricing. It is an EX 250 engine for crying out loud! That has seen no 100hp figures!
ok, off the rant. Get whatever fits both of you and that will meet your needs. Good luck.

Who is your insurance with? Try Geico or a bit more "bike friendly" company. The crusty old companies like Nationwide, Progressive (oxymoron), just don't understand bikes and have HORRIBLEclaim service.

I kinda like the Honda better. it has the parallel twin cylinder,as opposed to the single cyl of the Suzuki. i like the dual piston caliper on the front brake of the Honda. I think the Honda is better lookin too. It's just all my opinion man

Good luck, happy shopping

Alright, everything i'm hearing sounds good.

Dragone, i know what you mean...it pissed me off too especially for a 250
Jeffzx9, my insurance is Geico and they are not so bike friendly to me lol
Yoman, all the reasons you listed appeal to me as well. I didn't know that the Suzuki only had one sylinder.

Thanks you guys...i will let you know what happens. And zzrick, i think that bike is going to be good too. I'm already thinking of planning a trip across long island during the spring or when it gets warmer. So an extra $2000 won't hit me too hard and I will be able to ride with my dad. Sounds cool to me.

I hope you have fun with the old man, I try not to ride with mine

j/k when I got out of the Army and moved back home he bought one to ride with me...we had some good times. Of course, all of us are grown (unlike mine)and now he gets to ride thousands of miles more than I do each year. Especially after he got his goldwing this year

lol i understand you zzrick. I can't begin to imagine knowing somebody riding thousands of miles more than I do while I just do a couple here and there.
And thanks, but i think i only will ride with him when I wannacruise. AllI need is someone to tell me to stop going to fast.."your going 10 miles over the speedlimit, slow down" lol

Do they cover anything if you crash offroad? Just curious. I had dirtbikes from 4 on...but no insurance, just wondering if full coverage on a dualsport is "on road only".
