Default 1990 ninja zx750-F4 Timing problem..........PLEASE HELP!!!!

I have a 1990 Ninja ZX750-F4. Runs like crap. At idol it misses extremely bad. Without the choke on i can rev it to 4000rpm and it totally chokes. I hear a little clicking in the valve cover. I believe the timing chain jumped a tooth or two. Can anyone tell me exactly what position the dots on the cam gears are supposed to be with number one piston at TDC? Thanks

Normally, a slight ticking is fairly consistent with the CCT from Kawi. You may want to check that first. (See pg 4-9) Pg 4-10 of your manual. Get TDC of pistons 1 and 4. You can't miss the timing marks on the rotor. The cam sprockets: Exhaust mark with no slack, shows 1 and the 2nd link level with the case, and the 36th and 37th links of the cam chain level with the case on the intake.

get the factory manual for a few bucks and get comfy with your ride. good luck

I have pulled plugs and they r dry. I have checked spark and it is strong. I have changed plugs. The bike runs like crap and misses really bad with the choke on. Once warm i can turn the choke off and it still runs like crap. Then when i try to give it gas...........if i do it slowly i can get it to about 4000rpms and then it dogs and bogs out. tries to die. If i try to snap the throttle......it chokes out.

Someone told me timing might have jumped. IDK because i took the valve cover off, put the 1 and 4 to TDC and the notches on the cam gears line right up.......unless they marks don't mean anything.

My rockers are adjustable and seem quite sloppy but i don't know the specs for the amout of valve lash i need. Loose crappy settings on that might cause the issue also. IDK. I just don't have the cash to afford to pay the shop to fix it. 120 dollars an hour and it's the only shop around here.

Hey friend it will be better you do a compression test. I feel this is the best thing to check with your bike.

not sure if that was covered in the other questions elsewhere now, but yes check the basics first. I totally agree and get a manual!

of course I do and I will carry a manual for all of my bikes that I own/or have owned. Get the manual!!!! Sounds like the basics are over your head at the moment, so do some reading and familiar with your ride. Or you can send your bike to me to check out.

Drags repair shop is free, just the cost of shipping. It will be fixed quickly, but no garantee the bike will get back to you
