1990 ninja zx750-F4 Timing problem..........PLEASE HELP!!!!
I have a 1990 Ninja ZX750-F4. Runs like crap. At idol it misses extremely bad. Without the choke on i can rev it to 4000rpm and it totally chokes. I hear a little clicking in the valve cover. I believe the timing chain jumped a tooth or two. Can anyone tell me exactly what position the dots on the cam gears are supposed to be with number one piston at TDC? Thanks

I have pulled plugs and they r dry. I have checked spark and it is strong. I have changed plugs. The bike runs like crap and misses really bad with the choke on. Once warm i can turn the choke off and it still runs like crap. Then when i try to give it gas...........if i do it slowly i can get it to about 4000rpms and then it dogs and bogs out. tries to die. If i try to snap the throttle......it chokes out.
Someone told me timing might have jumped. IDK because i took the valve cover off, put the 1 and 4 to TDC and the notches on the cam gears line right up.......unless they marks don't mean anything.
My rockers are adjustable and seem quite sloppy but i don't know the specs for the amout of valve lash i need. Loose crappy settings on that might cause the issue also. IDK. I just don't have the cash to afford to pay the shop to fix it. 120 dollars an hour and it's the only shop around here.

not sure if that was covered in the other questions elsewhere now, but yes check the basics first. I totally agree and get a manual!
07-31-2010 04:51 PM rotlab09 do u have this manual? If so can i get you to email me copies of it.??
of course I do and I will carry a manual for all of my bikes that I own/or have owned. Get the manual!!!! Sounds like the basics are over your head at the moment, so do some reading and familiar with your ride. Or you can send your bike to me to check out.

hahaha. i ain't sending the bike nowhere...lol. I ordered a manual today. I did all the basics except for the compression test. I got it going and it runs great!!!! EXCEPT for one prob......going down the road, when i give it gas, it hesitates and lugs a little.
