I have been using Z custom leathers boots. Well, actually bought them in 1991 and am still riding with them. Would have liked some ankle protection in them though. Of course they offer that in the newer boots. I never had an issue with the shifter.

I picked up a pair of Alpinestars Ridge somethingorother... off of a crash-tested recommendation from a friend. They're pretty simple looking and pretty easy to get under the shifter.

Adjust your shift lever up a little. Don't have to move it much.

I just bought a pair of Icon's and thought I would have a problem shifting, but I had no problem at all.
