I found when the filter is stuck on a hamer and a long flat heard work wonders. Just impale the filter and twist and it comes right off .

I agree with warming up a ride prior to changing oil. The threads are heated by then along with what you all mentioned above for particulates. You can loosen right after a warm up, unscrew the filter when your hand can tolerate the heated headers.
