Default How to Shave your Seat.

I finally got around to shaving my seat. Decided to follow Evils advice and do it in the bathroom.

The following instructions are for the seat shave and not me in the bathroom. I'll do a "DIY" on that later.

It'll take you about 1 to 2 hours to do.

You'll need:

A hacksaw or electric knife
a small/ skinny flatblade screwdriver
Staplegun with 1/4" staples
Assortment of sandpaper (60, 80, 120 grit)
Spray adhesive (3M Super77)

First you take it off (the seat cover); I didn't take the staples off from the front of the seat so I had an anchor point when I reinstalled it.

then you take a hacksaw blade or electric knife and trim about a half inch off (the foam!).

Then you take some 80 grit sandpaper and stroke it (HEHE) till you get the wrinkles out and get it smooth. Take your time; the longer you take the better it'll be.

I was in a rush and it came out a little rough.

Pull the cover on and try it on the bike to see if you like it.

Here are 2 more.
Adjust as necessary and if you're happy with it, staple the cover back using a staple gun. You can use some spray adhesive to keep the vinyl against the foam if you want.

And the finished product. As I said; I was in a rush and it could have turned out better. There's a little bubble where the adhesive didn't stick and I have to smooth it out more anyway. This was practice. I'll take it off and redo it after I testride it to see how it works. It feels a lot better just sitting on the bike already. I'm not sliding into the tank as before.

It feels good; no more "Nutcracker". Also, I find less pressure on the wrists because I'm not constantly trying to push myself back off the tank. I may take it off and shave it a little more and smooth it out also. Maybe put a thin layer of large celled foam for extra cushion.

Nice HOWTO, speedracer. Anything you can do for my KLX250S seat? It's about the size, shape, and hardness of a blacksmith's anvil

I rode about 200 plus miles today with the modded seat and not once did I slam the jewels into the tank, so I'd say the seat shave works great. The road was twisty, very bumpy and fast with lots of hard braking. I think I'll do the other one also but maybe with the gel insert this time.

Nobrakes, you can do this to yours also. Cut & remove some stock foam and replace it with softer stuff from an upholstery shop. Heck, they might be able to do it for you.
