Just thought I would post a tutorial on the proper way to clean your chain. I have a gold DID 530 chain and the cleaner it looks the more pimp it is. So here it is:

1. Remove the rear tire, this is also a great time to inspect and clean your sprocket
2 for me I have to cut my chain and install new master link, O rings and rivets.
These are the tools necessary to do this job.
Oh did you notice the new Pilot Power rear, ahh virgin rubber.

3. Remove front sprocket cover, look at the dirt. I am going to leave it off this time for easier cleaning and pimp factor.
4. Locate the master link and use the chain breaker to push out the rivet pins.

5. This is the rivet being pushed through the link; it takes a little effort but breaks easily.
6. Remove chain from bike.

7. Place chain in small bucket that it will fit in easily.
8. Fill bucket with kerosene or colmen camp fuel and let it sit for 10 minuets or so. These fuels do not damage your O rings.

9. While the chain is stewing, it is the perfect time to clean some of those hard to get at areas.
10. Use soft brush, very important to use soft brush so you do not damage O rings, to gently scrub chain.

11. Wipe chain with clean cloth and look how clean she looks. Hang chain and let the rest of the camp fuel evaporate away.
12. more time to finish cleaning that swing arm and do not worry I did get to the inside of that lower plastic

13. Reinstall the rear wheel and place chain over rear sprocket and run through the front sprocket. Let chain hang from the rear and the front sprockets as shown. There is that new rubber again.
14. Bring the two ends together and install the new master link with O rings.

15. Use the chain tool to press the front link on the link with the rivets.
16. Same tool with flare attachment used to flare the ends of the rivets so they are held securely in place. When done it looks just like the old master link, except it is nice and clean now.

17. Now it is time to align the chain, some people try to eye ball or count the little lines on the swing arm but I use this little alignment tool. It fits squarely on the rear sprocket and then you can look down the chain and see the alignment.
18. Check and see how for out it is, dam would not want to be ridding on that.
19, Use the adjustment screws on the swing arm to align the chain and check the tightness. Check your owners manual for the correct play you should have in your chain. Adjsut as needed.
20. Check the alignment, ahh sweet, straight as I am.

21. Tighten the locking nuts on the adjustment screws and check out how nice your dirty chain looks now.
22. Get your favorite chain lube ready, I prefer chain wax you get less fling.
23. Take the bike out for a short 10 minuet ride to warm up the chain and yes I went easy on that new rear. No laying it down on cold new tire, no way, besides you can’t pimp it laying on the ground.
