Blinker Instal

Blinker Instal
I am getting ready to instal some aftermarket blinkers to my 2009 KLX250S. I have heard two different ways...1. just cutting blinkers at stalk and splicing new blinkers on right at that spot and 2. by tracing wire to fuse and pluging in if possable. Anyone have advice on instal and which is better? Just got this bike so I am unfamiliar with it and not electricaly inclinded.

These are effectively the same, just going further back the wire really. Most important thing is the quality of your connection and if you're switching over to an LED light. I like to solder and shrink wrap, some guys like crimp connections, my suggestion, if you're doing crimps use dielectric grease to keep them from rusting and use bullets they seem to hold better.
RE: LED's if you're switching to those you need to make sure they came with a resistor. You need that to keep it from lighting up both sides instead of just one. (I'll spare you the techy explanation part) of that unless you're doing LED and they didn't come with a resistor you dont need to stress it, if so, repost!

+1^ on soldered connections; butt connectors are for hacks. 3M makes an electrical joint wrap that is specifically for high-moisture exposed connections. I've used it on boat trailer wiring which gets submersed routinely. After soldering the connection, wrap it with the 3M stuff (about like bubble gum.) Then use Scotch 33 electrical tape; starting ahead of the joint, wrapping around tightly until you get past the joint to the other side. You can get the gummy stuff at Lowe's or Home Depot.
